Speaking of which, most of today’s Wi-Fi hotspots can be found on public places such as malls, parks and coffee shops. However, this is not always the case since you can’t always expect yourself to be at these places whenever you want. Fortunately, there’s a quick and easy way for you to convert your Android device into a portable Wi-Fi hotspot.

To do this, make sure that your Android device can connect to 3G, 4G or LTE. Most of today’s Android devices can easily connect to these wireless networks so you don’t need to worry. You also need to make sure that the battery of your device is fully charged or better yet, connect it to its charger. Keep in mind that sharing your device’s mobile data connection consumes a lot of power so you need to prepare it ahead of time.

Now that you’re all set, simply go to your device’s “Settings” then go to “Wireless and Networks”. If your device is still not connected to 3G (or 4G), go to “Mobile Networks” and then check the option for “Use packet data”. Wait for the 3G or 4G icon to appear on your device’s notification area and then go back to “Wireless and Networks”.

This time, go to “Tethering and portable hotspots” and check the option for “Portable Wi-Fi hotspot”. By doing so, you are allowing your device to share its mobile data connection to other devices such as your tablet and laptop.

After this, configure your device’s portable Wi-Fi hotspot settings by going to “Tethering and portable hotspots” > “Portable Wi-Fi hotspot settings” > “Configure portable Wi-Fi hotspot”. Change the name of your Network SSID and make sure to check “WPA2 PSK” for network security. Set your preferred password then press “Save”.

Once you have successfully established your device as a portable Wi-Fi hotspot, its connection will be made available to your other devices. So all you need to do is to connect your other device to your Android’s connection (refer to its Network SSID) and that’s it. You’re all set to browse the web just like you normally do when you’re in a Wi-Fi zone.
