How to Create Shortcuts for Contacts on Android

Managing your contact list on Android has been made easier since you can sort them out into groups and you can even assign a different ringtone to every caller. However, you may still find it troublesome to search for a specific contact especially if you have over a hundred entries on your list.

The good thing is there’s no need for you to go through all that hassle since you can easily create a shortcut for your contacts. All you need to do is to follow the steps listed below.

Step 1

Go to your Android home screen and head over to where your “Widgets” are located. Usually, your widgets will appear right after you long-press on your home screen but some devices might require you to do it differently.

Step 2

On your “Widgets” menu, find the section for “Shortcuts” then choose “Contact”. If your device is running on the latest version of Android, then all you need to do is to drag the widget to your home screen.

Step 3

After dragging the contact shortcut to your home screen, you will be prompted to choose the contact that you want to associate with your widget and that’s it. The shortcut for you contact will be placed on your home screen.

So every time you use the shortcut, you will be prompted whether to call, message or send an email to your contact. You can also opt to update your contact’s information in just one-click. It’s as easy as that.

Now, if you want to create shortcuts for multiple contacts, you can just follow the steps listed above and then place all of your contact shortcuts in one folder. Place that folder on your home screen for easy access and that’s it, you’re done.

In some versions of Android, you are also allowed to create a shortcut for all of your starred contacts as well as your contacts with phone numbers. To do this, simply go back to your “Widgets” menu then choose “Folders”. Instead of creating a normal folder, choose the one that is being labeled as “Starred contacts” or “Contacts with phone numbers”.

Apparently, this method can be very useful especially if you frequently use your smartphone for business and executive calls.
