5 Free Android Apps That Function as Thermometers

Thermometers app

With the right app, your Android smartphone or tablet can function as a thermometer using your device’s built-in temperature sensor. However, even if your mobile device is not equipped with a temperature sensor, there is still a way to get a decent temperature reading for the surrounding air.

Here are five such apps that can lend your mobile device a thermal sensing functionality. These apps can all be downloaded for free from the Google Play store.

Electronic Thermometer HD

This ad-supported temperature-measuring app shows you the air temperature in Celsius or in Fahrenheit. It can be also be used as a widget for your home screen. To calibrate, set the device temperature equal to the outside temperature, which you can get directly from the weather forecast. Take note, however, that if your Android device is not equipped with a temperature sensor, Electronic Thermometer HD will make use of the built-in sensor that comes with the electronic subassembly parts such as the battery. Since the temperature of the subassembly unit (instead of the surrounding air) will be reported by the app, don’t touch the device for an hour. That way the subassembly unit’s temperature becomes roughly equal to the ambient temperature. This helps to get a more accurate reading.

Thermometer (from Borce Trajkovski)

From software developer Borce Trajkovski comes a handy thermometer app with a classic analog thermometer design. Like Electronic Thermometer HD, it can display the temperature in Celsius or in Fahrenheit and is limited by your device’s hardware capabilities. If yours isn’t equipped with a temperature sensor, then follow the same steps as those detailed for the proper use of Electronic Thermometer HD.

Thermometer (from Heaveen)

This is another well-designed and free thermometer app to consider installing on your Android smartphone or tablet. A set of simple calibration instructions will guide you when you first open this app. Simply follow through in order to get a more accurate temperature reading.

Thermometer Plus

Sporting a beautifully designed and customizable interface, the free Thermometer Plus app enables you to measure air temperature, altitude, atmospheric pressure, and relative humidity on your Android device. To obtain a more accurate reading, position your mobile device away from heat sources, magnets, and wiring.

Smart Thermometer

The Smart Thermometer app can measure ambient temperature, atmospheric pressure, and relative humidity. A bonus for choosing this app: its widget sports vivid colors and a gorgeous design. If your Android smartphone or tablet, however, does not have a temperature sensor, Smart Thermometer will work just like a typical weather app that only displays temperatures sourced from various Web forecast services.

  1. I can’t find Thermometer Plus in the Google Play Store. The app developer is not listed, either, so I can’t find it by that.

  2. I can’t find Thermometer Plus in the Google Play Store. The app developer is not listed, either, so I can’t find it by that. Also, I have found at least two apps called Smart Thermometer. Having the developer name would be really helpful!

  3. OK. Update from previous comment. I found seven apps in the Google Play Store labeled Smart Thermometer. Seven!

Really wish the developer name was in the article.

Come to look at it, though, the article is almost five years old. How about doing an update on the article?

    Thanks!
